LSQ 2016 06 TeamLightSpeed Individual Open Buzzer Quiz 2016

Tournament 6 Saturday 26th June, Yorkshire Championship: Pontefract Sports and Social Club

Half-way!

Half way through 2016, so time to reflect a little.

Amazing! Without doubt it is the highlight of my month, and please, whatever I can do to make it the highlight of yours, let me know. The handicaps are kicking in nearly on target, I'm still waiting for the day when all competitors are going into the last six questions with a shot at first place (It was four this time round with three questions to go, brilliant Debs for keeping your nerve).

Might I suggest we are all a) enjoying our own niche in LSQ and b) watching with fascination the battle between McPartland and Dunning? I am personally hypnotised by that incredibly thin dividing line between 'success' and 'failure'. Looking at this set (Pontefract) I was six hundredths of a second behind on an answer I would have nailed with about four questions left that would have put me in a play-off. Instead I ended up with zip, nada, off the podium. Every month we have half a dozen people on a string of consecutive scores, and basically 2 questions and two negs meaning the difference between 5th and 11th.

Question setting has gone from strength to strength, and I really believe we should be concentrating on producing a book a tournament. I have books at home that I love that contain 1500 questions, but most of ours are worth three of a normal 'book' question, given the density of information, the humour and natural expertise behind them. Hell, I would pay £2 for an e LSQ tournament set all the live long. My favourite questions this time 'round were Chris Bean's "Arçelik" question and, naturally, Preston's "Born in 1957". Man you can go wrong with stuff like that.

Ambitions for the next six months?

  • Continue to have great quizzes
  • Persuade 24 people (or more) to come to the Lake District, not just the quizzers, but friends and families
  • To enrol at least six more rookies
  • Produce a book
  • Persuade somebody to manage the scores and timer. I have just got a wee laptop with a touch screen which will, I hope, make it far easier to manage
  • Persuade 24 people (or more) to come to the Lake District, not just the quizzers, but friends and families

Whatever - it is the best open filmed quiz in the country - lets continue to make it better.

Once again, by putting these charts up it's a bit of a giveaway who wins what, nevertheless, you don't have to scroll down. The films are going up now at definite weekly intervals at 8:30 on a Monday. I have given in to YouTube's 'monetisation' scheme which enables scheduling.

The playlist is here (Nb. Once they go 'live' you can navigate around the 5 films using the buttons around the embeded playlist, play around with them, share them, like them, comment on them).
