THIS WAS AWESOME
On Sunday, July 22nd 2007, the best singular collection of 12 quizzers I have had the privelege to see at the same table did battle in QU12 2007 round 2. The film was great, the sound was good and the game quality betters anything we have seen on screen before.
Part One saw Ray Oakes open the scoring, but it was Darren Martin and Mark Kerr who got the early leads. It seems that anybody who gets three points in round one is safe, once again forty eight questions being asked in the 12 minutes. Unluckiest player had to be Keith Pointon who blew half his score on "what does the html instr..." with less than a minute left. Despite getting the last answer before the bell, his two points, along with Lee Warburton and Scott Dawsons' were one short of safey, consigning them to the sidelines along Peter Duffy. Scores after round one were:
Part Two Once again proved the most difficult to predict, with Alan Gibbs and Ray Oakes starting slowly, yet qualifying, Darren Martin blowing an early five points yet qualifying first, and Graham Barker swatting some beautifuly measured answers to make the final. What happened to the others - Phil Duffy went crazy, Mark Kerr, my personal favourite to win frustratingly negged a six pointer (again), Diane Hallagan seemed to go out with "Perth" (insteqad of "Bannockburn") and Dag Griffiths, though well in contention, was pipped by Oakes with a six on "Gnitty". There were seventeen questions in round two and the final scores were:
Part ThreeThe early part of the round looked like a cakewalk for Darren, yet when Alan Gibbs pulled back to ten apiece one could not have picked the winner for sure. It was Darren who prevailed with two last answers making it look easy, nevertheless the capricious nature of QU12 was illustrated, with great players falling by the wayside (I suppose that couldn't be helped in this line-up) and the result in doubt right to the very end.
The film is superb. But I would say that wouldn't I.
The Aprés QU12 consisted of victories for Lee Warburton on Pop, and Peter Duffy and Dag on GK Handicaps. I love that bit.
