Round Seven: The Dun Cow, Durham

QU12 2007 round seven will take place this Sunday 30th September at 1 PM in one of Bill Bryson's favourite places, at: The Dun Cow Inn, 37 Old Elvet, Durham, County Durham, DH1 3HN

You can see from the map that it is right in the heart of the town, parking is available at the Multi Story Car Park, and you must, if you have never been before, take time out to see the town - It is gorgeous, and the people are canny.

It is with absolute total and unbridled joy to me that The North East Sports Quiz League, and The Sunderland Echo Quiz League have been instrumental in encouraging contestants, so we have at the moment 9 players booked in and, dare I say it, look like getting the twelve up. (Incidentally, everybody who turns up will be guaranteed some quiz, and if we get more than 8 extra I will run and film another show, making it number eight in the series). Please let me know, then I can get the name tags and questions organised.

Barry Howbridge, Peter Robinson, Keith Marshall and Mike Foden all represent the Gosforth Empire, runners up at this year's CIU quiz and a British Masterteam. The Legendary Tony Gold (The very one who beat Kevin on Eggheads and maestro of the best team quiz in the country, the CIU) will be blessing us with his presence, and from the Sunderland League, David Taylor and Mick Frith will ensure that Barry and Mark don't have it all their own way. I have never met Craig Marsh, from Sheffield, but welcome aboard anyway. If only we could get the Durham UC team up?

Part Two - 12 Questions

I hope Pat Gibson doesn't mind me pointing out his reservations about only twelve questions in part two. As usual he is dead right - it does raise the possibility of an unbalanced (or even balanced) set distorting the competition.

I agree, but am happy to increase the random element - The "Round of Death" should be very exciting/frustrating. I hope you will forgive me building in these factors which may be more of a disadvantage to the better quizzers, though I am sure you will understand why. By measure of compensation I have made the effort to partition the subjects for part 2. They are (In no particular order)

Local
History
Current Affairs
Sport
Natural World
Art and Culture
Music
TV * Films
Science
Literature
Geography
What Year

The added advantages for me are:
a) Aesthetic: 12 minutes, 12 questions, 12 points seems so elegant
b) Practical: It is much easier to get a consistent time for the purposes of programming
c) Ergonomic?? (is that the right word) - less work!

The fixture list is about complete, if you go to Dates, there is a full list of venues
